We are thoroughly enjoying the Olympics at our house! The boys are having a great time cheering on our athletes, watching new sports, and learning about the different countries. My friend, Kate suggested an Olympic-themed playdate to add to our summer fun. With most of us free in the afternoon, I offered to host so Kieran could still squeeze in a nap during the playdate.
As our friends arrived, they decorated their flags and discus. Even our lunch followed the Olympic theme with fish and chips for London, Olympic ring bagel sandwiches, veggies matching the Olympic colors, and watermelon stars and blueberries. Our events included water balloon toss, newspaper javelin, paper plate discus, ping pong precision pitch, and frozen t-shirt race.

Our final event was the frozen t-shirt race. The kids were given folded t-shirts that had been frozen. They had to pry them apart and be the first to get the shirt on. It was a very HOT day (what's new?), so the frozen t-shirts were refreshing for our Olympians.

Our Olympians!
Following the medal ceremony, we enjoyed several Olympic-themed treats--red, white, and blue shortcakes, pretzel/marshmallow dumbbells, oreo medals, and popcorn torches.

It was a fun afternoon with long-time friends. Last Olympics, these kiddos were four years old and younger. Next time around, they will be 8-12 years old! (Not sure that I'm ready to think about that.)
