Our April

During third quarter, Caden and his WIN Reading Enrichment class studied the story, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. The story tells of a man, Harris Burdick, who comes into Mr. Peter Wender's office and explains that he has written 14 stories with multiple drawings for each one. Mr. Burdick has brought a picture that contains a title and caption for each of the 14 stories. Mr. Burdick says he will return tomorrow with the stories that go along with each picture. He leaves the pictures and heads out of Mr. Wender's office never to be seen or heard from again. To this day, Mr. Burdick and his pictures with no stories remain a mystery.

Caden's class was given the assignment to write stories that accompany each picture and caption that Mr. Burdick brought in. They were paired with a published author who critiqued their work and gave feedback to improve their stories. The students chose their favorite piece to be judged by a panel of five authors.

The following photos are from the award ceremony. Caden's piece, Another Time, Another Place, won Honorable Mention or 4th place. Each student's piece received an award of some type, and the top 5-6 winners received Barnes & Noble gift cards.

While I was at Caden's award ceremony, Kieran was at Easter Chapel at preschool. After chapel, he went to the park with Levi, Kody, and Kalyn.

All of the second grades at Cole's school put on the musical, Lemonade! Cole was given the role of Humpty Dumpty.

Cole did a fantastic job with the songs and movements! So did the rest of the second graders.

Cole said his lines perfectly! It was a very cute musical.
Got a laugh from this line
